Legalizing Homosexuality in India

These are some reactions I read in the paper today, July 3, 2009, about the
debate over legalizing gay relationships...
And I've something to say to these wise old men.

"The judgement is unfortunate.. this is a Congress conspiracy.. it seems
some top Congress leaders are gay."
- This is hilarious. Childish. Some people bring politics into everything.
Such politicians should first grow up before thinking of representing a
group. But then again, like we say, andhon mein kaana raja, I'm sure he
leads idiots like himself.

"Legalizing homosexuality would lead to an increase in sex-related crimes,
especially sodomy, where children would be victims."
- This person thinks that the rapists think about the law before committing
a sex-related crime. And if homosexuality wasn't legal, he wouldn't rape a
male and instead rape a female. What an Idiot! If a person commits a crime,
he or she doesn't care what is legal and what is illegal. This guy wasn't
born with a brain, I think.

"The Centre is giving undue attention to this non-issue.. there are so many
other important things which deserve the government's attention."
- Of course, there are so many issues for the government to solve. And it
needs to take up an issue, any issue, to solve it. It so happens that this
issue has come up, and about time too. And this is NOT a non-issue! It
involves people, citizens of this country. They are in
pain and need relief. I think this guy should open his eyes and see that
he's in a democratic country where every person has equal rights.

"On one hand, we're spending crores on AIDS prevention ads and on the other,
we legalize gay sex."
- Good. It's good to know we're spreading awareness about HIV/AIDS
prevention but it's a total waste because this guy seems to have missed the
information the ads wanted to convey altogether. A sexually transmitted
disease spreads because of unsafe sex. It can be sex between two men or sex
between a man and a woman. I'd say we're not doing a good job with AIDS
awareness.

"A joint forum of Hindus, Muslims and Christians should be set up to check
legalisation of homosexuality."
- This makes it sound like homosexuality is a separate religion. And the
dominating, or at least more popular religions don't want it to emerge.
Maybe if a different kind of place of worship comes up, their share of
donations may go down. BS! What is wrong with these people? I always thought
religion taught us to love others. What you follow is a matter of personal
choice. And people who really believe in God, should understand that
homosexuals are humans created by God in his own image, just like them. How
can God who has created you and him be biased! God cannot be biased. Then
who are you to question His decision? Are you saying you're greater than
God?
Therefore, I conclude that this so-called religious person is a hypocrite, a
*dhongibaba* type person. He doesn't actually understand God at all. I don't
think he should be allowed to represent any religion.

"Islam allowed physical relationship between man and woman only. Rest of the
unnatural bonds are strictly prohibited."
- I cannot say anything about this because I dunno what Islam is. Some
people follow scriptures written aeons ago literally, without knowing or
trying to understand the actual message it conveys.
I know that if one agrees to the way of life laid down by Islam, he should
follow it. It will be for his salvation and his salvation only.
His following his religion will not save anyone else, not even his spouse.
And in the same way, someone else's *not* following his religion, will not
kill this person. He will only reap what he sows. He will not be punished by
God for someone else's actions. I don't think he has the right to decide
someone else's sexual preference. He should just shut up!

"The verdict will encourage criminality and sick mentality. This kind of
thing is shameful and insulting. We are blindly following the West in
everything. This is breaking the family system in India. Homosexuals are
sick people, they should be sent to hospitals for treatment. If the
government brings this law, I will take to the streets in protest."
- I don't see how accepting homosexuality will encourage crime. A
hetrosexual can commit a crime too. And by giving birth to even hetrosexuals
you are contributing to the crime. Criminals can be homosexuals are well as
hetrosexuals. I don't see a connection here. And I don't think it's shameful
or insulting. Did someone abuse you? In fact, you're the one abusing the
homosexuals, and now, they have a chance to fight back. By making
homosexuality legal, your abusing them will become illegal. And so their win
will be your loss.
You rightly deserve it. We are definately not following the West in this
case. From what I've heard about indian history, being gay was normal, even
Hindu Gods thought so, and West has given us Christianity, who are also
supporting you against homosexuality. A bigger religion, of which every
person of every big religion is a part, is humanity, being human. Humans
have evolved through the time. And we've lived here for so many milleniums.
You think homosexuality is a new trend?
If you say yes, you're as ass! You need to grow more to understand. I bet
that even the second generation of humans might've experimented with this.
Some people like it, some people don't. You cannot force a person to like
what he finds disgusting. BY MAKING HOMOSEXUALITY LEGAL, THEY ARE NOT ASKING
YOU TO BE A HOMOSEXUAL!! They just want to be left alone with their choice
of lifestyle, that doesn't harm another unwilling person. And if a
homosexual forces someone, he's a criminal. Just like a hetrosexual man who
forces a woman, is called a rapist.
Homosexuality is not rape. If the government brings in a law that doesn't
affect you, a heterosexual, at all, and you decide to go on the streets and
cause annoyance and vandalize public property, I think you are the SICK one
and you desperately need to see a doc.

"Home ministry wanted section 377 retained as it is invoked in allegations
of child sex abuse or for contemplating lacunae in rape laws, not just
homosexuality. The ministry said the provision is necessary or it would open
the floodgates of delinquent behaviour."
- Whoever gave this statement is not talking from the law's point of view.
It's his personal view. In a rape there's a victim and an accused. But when
it comes to homosexuality, both the accused and the 'victim' were punished
for something that they did with each others' consent.
If homosexual behaviour among adults with consent is legalised. It does not
mean anyone can be forced to do it. As soon as force comes into play, it's
no longer sex, it's rape. And we have a Section for that.

Is all this so difficult to understand??????? Or am I way ahead of times!

You seem to be pretty moved by the thoughtless blabber of certain non-entities, who like to express their opinion even when it's unwarranted, on issues that they do not understand.
A good response nonetheless..

Anyways I think it's a fair move to have more clarity on Section 377 and the situations which are now covered under it.
A long due rephrasing of the law, which will definitely save a lot of people the embarrassment of accepting their sexual preference in social spheres. But I still see it having very little effect on the social acceptance of LGBT community in general. A good move but not something to be claimed as a landmark, I find the hype and hoopla too over-rated and too dramatized!
It's not going to change the future of our world :)
