Do you ever feel the irrepressible urge to smash someone's head, or simply to scream your lungs out? I do. And I know it's anger, the real root of all evil.
Why does one become angry? Maybe because the world turns out to be different from what one expects it to be. The expectations mismatch the reality. Sometimes, this mismatch brings joy, satisfaction, peace of mind like when you get second class in an exam you've barely written to achieve even passing marks and at others, it brings sadness, dissatisfaction, anger like when someone breaks the signal and bangs into your car while you were following all the traffic rules sincerely.
What should one do when one becomes angry?
Control it? I don't think so, you cannot always control your anger and controlling it will only make it get stored in you, which will explode later when you least expect it, making you angry even on that behaviour of yours.
Divert attention? You cannot always divert your attention either. Sometimes the offender persists so much to invoke anger in you that it simply cannot be ignored, and at other times, if you're successful in diverting your attention, it'll again store that anger somewhere deep inside to explode later.
I think one should not pretend to be something or someone he or she is not. If you're angry, be angry. If you don't want to be angry, then accept the reality, make changes to your expectations so that they match the reality because you can't change reality but expectations, you can.
This acceptence of reality is probably what they call, meditation.
Beware of one thing, though. When you start accepting the reality as it is, when your expectations die because they're not different from the reality anymore, when you don't dream of a better world, I think your life will become boring, you wont be fun to hang out with. You wont be amused at surprises, you wont react to sudden happiness or sadness. Your character will become colorless.
You'll be like a stone, which doesn't react to happiness or sadness. It remains.
So, I think one should live life as it comes. Expect everything to turn out good. I think our minds are very powerful, what you expect is what mostly happens in reality too.
